Message from our Board President
Dear Members of the Women’s Network
What an amazing year this has been for the Women’s Network and for our community! Thank you for your support of our mission to connect, inspire and empower women through thought leadership, research, and high impact training. With the release of our Gender Equity and Women in Leadership Study we are now poised to effect and measure significant change not only for individual women, but for the culture of our places of work and our communities. Since the beginning of the year, we have been exploring a formal collaboration with the Greater Akron Chamber in order to gain the capacity to effect this change. Under the leadership of their new President, Steve Millard, and Senior Vice President, Brynn Poppa, the Greater Akron Chamber has identified the need to advance economic opportunity through diversity and inclusion to accelerate the growth and success of Greater Akron’s companies as one of their “Four Strategies to Lead Greater." The work of the Women’s Network is directly aligned with this strategy.
I am pleased to inform our membership that the Women’s Network Board of Directors unanimously approved a plan for partnership with the Greater Akron Chamber of Commerce at its August meeting. This plan will result in the following:
- The Women’s Network will be responsible for all research and programming of the Greater Akron Chamber related to gender equity and women in leadership.
- A Women’s Network Council will advise the Greater Akron Chamber on direction for research and programming consistent with our current dedication to providing high impact, best-in-class curriculum to individual women, companies, and our community.
- The Women’s Network 501c3 will remain in existence with Jan Conrad continuing as our Executive Director as an employee of the Greater Akron Chamber.
- Part of that agreement necessitates a change in the Women’s Network Code of Regulations to allow for the Greater Akron Chamber to assume financial responsibility for the day to day operations of the Women’s Network. This will allow the Women’s Network to take full advantage of the operational capacity of the Greater Akron Chamber in addition to their broad economic connections.
The Board of Directors has approved for your review the attached revised Code of Regulations. We will hold a vote to approve the new Code of Regulations at our Annual Meeting on Monday September 23, 2019 from 5:00-7:00pm at the Signal Tree Event Space at Bounce Innovation Hub, 526 South Main Street, Akron 44311. If you have questions about any of these changes prior to our meeting, please feel free to contact me via email firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone 234-788-5586. I look forward to seeing you at the Annual Meeting.
