A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a young woman graduating from a public or private high school in the greater Akron area. This scholarship is designated for a student accepted into a baccalaureate degree program in the physical sciences, engineering or mathematics at an accredited college or university. The $1,000 scholarship is renewable annually for a maximum of three years ($4,000).
Shooting for the Stars
Each year, this scholarship enables one talented woman to begin the educational program necessary to become a scientist or engineer.
Judith Arlene Resnik is an inspiration for all women. A graduate of Firestone High School, Akron, Ohio in 1966, she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University in 1970, and a doctorate in Electrical Engineering from the University of Maryland in 1977.
On January 28, 1986, she and her fellow crew members were part of the fateful Orbiter Challenger which exploded shortly after launch.
To keep her memory alive, Women’s Network, Inc. established a scholarship fund in 1992 to be awarded to women studying math and/or science at a four-year college.
Why An Endowment Fund?
As an endowment fund, the scholarship will be self-sustaining. The Women’s Network goal is to support several women annually. Women’s Network, with your support, will continue to grow the fund through Susan B. Anthony (SBA) membership dues, an annual appeal and other fund-raising activities.
Your Gift Keeps Giving
Your gift is invested and only a portion of the investment income is used for scholarship awards so the fund keeps growing. Your gift today will benefit our daughters, our granddaughters and their daughters.
